Duet’s solution had issues keeping up with brush strokes in Photoshop, causing substantial lag and sometimes jumpy and wiggly lines which made the whole drawing experience underwhelming. Although it remained an excellent (and relatively cheap for a one-time $24.99 investment) option for those who wanted to view extra information on a second screen, where Duet initially failed was serving up a usable drawing display for the artist community.

After connecting the iPad to a Mac or PC via a USB cable, it delivered a retina-quality second display at 60 frames per second, with minimal to no lag. Duet Display was one of the first to truly offer a usable second-screen experience.

One big difference between these two apps is that while Astropad's offer is dedicated to Mac users only, Duet display can be accessed on both Mac and PC, making it the only tethered drawing display solution to be considered by Windows PC users. There are only two solid contenders for people interested in using their iPad in this manner: Duet Display and Astropad Studio of which the latter has been already reviewed and highly recommended by digital EPIGRAPHY. However, when it comes to hooking the iPad up to the Mac or PC to create a Wacom Cintiq-like experience, the options are suddenly far more limited. We just need to find the best app that fits our needs for getting the desired result, though it can be difficult at times because of the share amount of creative solutions offered in Apple’s App Store.

You can also adjust the pressure curve settings in the Studio sidebar by tapping the red ring button > Pencil & Stroke > Pressure Curve.Įnable Pen Pressure in Astropad Studio for Windows Pen Pressure SensitivityĪstropad Studio supports pen pressure sensitivity in a variety of programs and currently uses the Windows Ink tablet driver API.The iPad Pro has become a fantastic tool for us working in digital documentation in part because of its flexibility - different apps provide different drawing tools, ideas, and experiences. Here are the steps to enable pen pressure in some common programs. If your program is not on this list, let us know or check to see if there is a similar setting that needs to be changed to enable pen pressure. Some programs like Photoshop CS6 do not have support for the Windows Ink API, so pressure sensitivity will unfortunately not work for these programs while using Astropad Studio for Windows. In Blender's menu bar, go to Edit > Preferences > Input > Tablet and change Tablet API to "Windows Ink". With Windows Ink enabled, in Clip Studio Paint's toolbar, go to File > Preferences > Tablet and select the "use TabletPC" option. Go to Edit > Preferences > User Interface. Check "Enable pressure sensitivity" and "Use Windows Ink". Settings > Configure Krita > Tablet settings. Select Krita is defaulted to use the WinTab tablet driver API, so you will need to change this in Settings. "Windows 8+ Pointer Input (Windows Ink)" and click OK. In the left side menu under Available actions, find and Settings > Configure Toolbars and select " Click the right arrow on the arrow-pad in the middle to Select the option for pen pressure ("Use Pen Pressure" or "Pressure Usage").

In TV Paint's menu bar, go to Edit > Preferences > General and Change Tablet to "Ink". Zbrush is defaulted to use the WinTab tablet driver API, so you will need to change this in Preferences. In Preferences, go to Tablet > Tablet Driver API > Stylus.Firstly, if you’re a Windows user, Sidecar is out by default - the feature is only available on Mac. Secondly, you need a relatively new iPad and a relatively new Mac in order to make it work… something I found out the hard way when I wanted to try Sidecar on my mid-2015 Retina MacBook Pro. You need a MacBook Pro released in 2016 or newer, a MacBook Air released in 2018 or newer, or an iMac released in late 2015 or newer. You also need an iPad Pro, a third-generation iPad Air, a fifth-generation iPad Mini, or a regular iPad that’s six-generation or later.
